Sinkhole – Ad & Tracker Blocker: Privacy Policy

Effective 23 October 2026

Sinkhole is a browser extension that blocks ads and trackers. It is built so that your browsing stays on your device.

Data we collect

None. Sinkhole has no accounts, no analytics and no telemetry. We do not collect, store on our servers, sell or share any personal information, browsing history or page content.

Data stored on your device

Sinkhole saves the following in your browser's local extension storage, only on your device: your settings, the sites you paused, the ads you marked (site name and element selector), hosts you chose to block, and your blocklist URLs. You can view and delete all of it in the extension's Settings page, and uninstalling the extension removes it.

Network requests

The only network request Sinkhole makes is downloading the blocklists you have configured, once a day and when you press "Save and update now". By default these are four public, open-source filter lists: the StevenBlack hosts list (raw.githubusercontent.com), EasyList and EasyPrivacy (easylist.to), and the AdGuard DNS filter (adguardteam.github.io). You can change them in Settings. The request contains no information about you or your browsing; your IP address is visible to the server hosting the list, as with any download. Blocklists are treated as data (domain names) and are never executed as code.

Permissions

Sinkhole asks for permission to block network requests, store settings, schedule the daily update, and, only if you turn on Ad hiding or mark an ad, to run on web pages so it can hide ads. That website access is optional and you can withdraw it at any time in the popup or Settings. It does not read, record or transmit the content of the pages you visit.

Children

Sinkhole does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with an updated date.
